Introduction

ProbeCheck respects your privacy. This policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and your rights.

Device Test Data Stays in Your Browser

All device tests (webcam, microphone, keyboard, screen, mouse, speaker) run entirely in your browser using browser APIs. No audio, video, keystrokes, or device fingerprints are sent to our servers. The only server-side data about your tests is an anonymous aggregate counter (see the Anonymous Usage Statistics section below).

Local Storage

When you save test results, they are stored in your browser's local storage (IndexedDB). This data never leaves your device. You can delete saved results at any time from the results page, or by clearing your browser data.

Anonymous Usage Statistics

ProbeCheck maintains anonymous aggregate counters to understand how the service is used. We only store simple counts such as: how many times each test has been run and whether it passed or failed. These counters contain no user data, no IP addresses, no device fingerprints, and no personal information. We also record limited first-party analytics events (such as which pages were viewed and which scenario was started) via Cloudflare Analytics Engine — these events contain page paths and test types only, with no IP addresses or user identifiers attached. We also collect anonymous, bucketed device categories (such as operating system family, browser family, and GPU performance tier). These buckets are coarse enough that no individual device can be identified.

Cookies

ProbeCheck itself does not set any tracking, advertising, or analytics cookies. Language preference is stored in the URL path (e.g. /de/), not in a cookie. Our content delivery network, Cloudflare, may set a technical cookie called __cf_bm on visitors to protect the site against automated abuse. This cookie is necessary for security purposes, expires after about 30 minutes, and is not used for tracking or profiling.

Third-Party Services

We use the following third-party services: (1) Sentry for error monitoring, performance tracing, and crash reports. When an error occurs, Sentry may receive your browser's user-agent, the URL where the error happened, and a crash stack trace. In a small percentage of sessions (10% of normal sessions, 100% of sessions with errors), Sentry may also record a replay of the on-page DOM to help us diagnose bugs. Replays mask password fields and content marked as sensitive. (2) Cloudflare for content delivery, edge security, and first-party analytics. Cloudflare may process your IP address at the edge for security and rate-limiting purposes, but does not store it in our analytics. We do not embed advertising networks, social media trackers, or any other third-party trackers.

Data Retention

Aggregate counters are kept indefinitely as they contain no personal data. Cloudflare Analytics Engine data is retained for up to 90 days. Sentry error and performance data is retained according to Sentry's default retention (up to 30 days for session replays, up to 90 days for transactions). Data stored in your browser's local storage remains until you delete it.

Your Rights

Under the GDPR (European Economic Area) and similar laws, you have the right to access, correct, or delete personal data held about you, and to object to or restrict certain processing. Because ProbeCheck does not collect personal data directly tied to your identity, most rights can be exercised by simply clearing your browser data. For any request related to data that Sentry or Cloudflare may hold (such as an IP address captured in an error report), contact us at privacy@probecheck.com and we will forward the request to the relevant processor.

Children's Privacy

ProbeCheck does not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13. Since no personal data is collected from any user, the service is suitable for all ages.
